FlightGear is a complex flight simulator project designed for use in academic environments, as an industry engineering tool, pilot training platform, as well as an engaging and challenging desktop flight simulator.

FlightGear comes with support for standard 3D model formats and offers you the option to configure the simulator via XML based ASCII files. Moreover, the creation of third-party extensions for FlightGear is straightforward and does not require too much reverse engineering
